Chaka Washington

Chaka has done legal writing on the state, federal and international levels for over a decade. She worked for four years as a public defender on the state and federal levels where she juggled appellate writing with a demanding court schedule. She moved to Europe in 2016 and spent two years working as a consultant and later associate with a European NGO. She began her career as a legal writer offering outsourced legal research and writing services for attorney in 2018. Since then, she has since worked in a myriad of different practice areas at every stage of litigation. You can find samples of her writing here and can visit her LinkedIn profile for a more in-depth review of her work experience.

Chaka attended law school at The College of William and Mary, where she was a member of the Environmental Law and Policy Review, and she has a degree in English Literature from Emory University. Working with the Immigrants’ Rights section of the ACLU, she co-authored a paper, Shattered Dreams: An Analysis of the Georgia Board of Regents’ Admissions Ban from a Constitutional and International Human Rights Perspective, which was published in UC Hastings Race and Poverty Law Journal. Chaka is licensed to practice law in Georgia and California.

In addition to her legal research and writing projects, Chaka also writes a legal blog where she offers expert legal analysis on current legal issues and those that come up in her work.

When Chaka isn’t doing legal writing, she likes to travel, cook, and walk her dog. Chaka speaks English and Spanish and currently lives in Lusaka, Zambia.
